The Shepherd in the Shadows
The shepherd in the shadows is my shield.
He stands between the enemy and me.
He feels the force of darkness, does not yield.
He tramples death and sets its victims free.
The shepherd in the shadows wears his blood.
To save the crushed, he has been crushed himself.
Some lords look down from thrones. He’s in the mud,
A priceless son betrayed and sold for pelf.
The shepherd in the shadows is the light,
Unquenched by all extinguishing attempts.
For those who fear him, there’s no other fright.
Our God is with us, and his pow’r preempts
All other claims upon us and secures
A freedom from the shadows that endures.
